One of the city' main monuments and focal points. During the day it is predominantly occupied by orange juice stalls, water sellers with traditional leather water-bags and brass cups and snake charmers. As darkness falls, the square fills with dozens of food-stalls as the number of people on the square peaks. The square is edged along one side by the Marrakesh souk, a traditional North African market catering both for the common daily needs of the locals, and for the tourist trade. On other sides are hotels and gardens and cafe terraces, and narrow streets lead into the alleys of the medina quarter. More

Sultan al-Ghalib Abdullah constructed the first tomb to contain the body of his father and the founder of the Saadian empire, Mohammed ash-Sheikh.He built lavish mausoleums in equally opulent structures. Materials included imported Italian marble and gold, with eye-catching tilework, known as zellige, plasterwork and woodwork to make the Chamber of 12 Pillars a suitably glorious mausoleum. The entire complex radiates beauty. The main mausoleum, which contains the body of Sultan Ahmed el Mansour, is the more attractive of the two mausoleums. Built during the sultan’s lifetime, it showcases the incredible skills of master artisans. Sultan Ahmed el Mansour’s sons lie to the sides of his tomb. There are 66 tombs between the two mausoleums, containing princes and other prominent figures. The gardens have even more tombs in various states of beauty and detail. Decorative and colourful tiles and Quranic inscriptions are common embellishments. The gardens contain more than 100 tombs. The mosque is the largest Islamic place of worship in Marrakesh. More
The Kasbah Mosque of Marrakech is a Friday Mosque originally built by the Almohad caliph Yaqub al-Mansour in 1185-1190 CE. It is located in the old kasbah of Marrakech, the citadel or royal district. Along with the Koutoubia Mosque, it is one of the most important historical mosques in Marrakech. The exterior of the mosque is imposing, with high walls crowned along the top by merlons above a row of corbels. Along the walls are large pointed horseshoe arches, most of which are now walled-in, while some frame the gates of the mosque.
